For watch lovers, London is a paradise unlike any other. It’s not just about telling time; it’s about feeling, living, and breathing the stories each timepiece holds. The city offers an incredible diversity of experiences for collectors, from the quiet elegance of the Burlington Arcade to the chaotic energy of Portobello Road Market. Each location has its own rhythm, its own treasures, and an omnipresent sense of history.
Hunting for a vintage watch in London isn’t your typical shopping trip. It’s a journey — a pilgrimage into the heart of horology that takes you down hidden alleys, into welcoming shops, and through markets where every stall has personality. These aren’t just watches but artifacts of art, history, and passion. Whether you’re a seasoned collector with an eye for the rarest pieces or a curious newcomer starting to appreciate the art of horology, London has something for you. The city is a melting pot of cultures, aesthetics, and stories, all woven together in the ticking hands of its vintage timepieces.
So buckle up—this isn’t a guide for the faint of heart. It’s for the bold, the curious, and the passionate. This guide will take you to the places where London’s horological heartbeat is the strongest, helping you feel the city’s pulse, one tick at a time. Let’s dive in.
This place is a vintage watch hunter’s dream. As soon as I stepped foot into this place, I felt right at home as it had a familiarity dating back to my early days as a vintage watch enthusiast and hunter when I would find vintage watches in antique malls and antique shops where you wouldn’t expect to see a hidden gem mixed in with other oddities and objects. Grays isn’t just filled with watch shops but is more of an antique mall offering a haven for antique dealers specializing more in jewelry and objects, but there are a good number of vintage Watch dealers here.
What you will find here:
If it’s antique and cool, you will find it here. Each vendor, whether they sell flintlocks, signet rings, pottery, bar accessories, or watches, has its stall within the 2-level antique mall. We visited all of the watch dealers that call Grays home during our visit. But below are, top pics based on the selection vibe and overall quality of watches.
Address:
Boutique 105, Grays Antique Market,
58 Davies Street,
Mayfair, London, W1K 5LP

Located on the lower level in Boutique 105 is Tortoise Watches. One of the things that instantly struck me is that when you go into an “antique mall.” you will typically see different stalls that are all kind of in some state of dishevelment, which, don’t get me wrong, is something I love. Still, Tortoise watches are elegantly organized, and each watch is displayed properly to be enjoyed independently upon entering the shop. Arwind, aka @wristpirate, has a deep passion for watches, including Zenith, which you can see within the watches on display. Arwind has a keen eye for sourcing vintage watches, and there is a diverse selection of brands like Rolex, Tudor, and Omega, among others. But Arwind also loves Zenith, and the shop displays some of the most interesting and sought-after models to have ever come from the brand. The collection yields more toward sports style watches, but when we were visiting the boutique, we ended up buying a rare and sought-after tropical 1950s Patek Philippe Stainless Steel Calatrava ‘Anti-Magnetic’ (Ref. 3418) “First Series.” This is a must-stop when visiting London and or the Grays antique market

On the first level, with a large booth that rounds a corner to the left of the main staircase, you will find Timespec—a treasure trove of mostly vintage watches, as well as collectible pens, lighters, and a large collection of travel and desk clocks. The owners are friendly and welcoming, offering a diverse range of timepieces, from Cartier to military chronographs from the 1940s, all of which feel refreshingly new to the market.

In the lower level, tucked neatly away in a corner, Chase Hattan watches are. The selection is truly a mixed bag of vintage and modern watches, ranging from Rolex, IWC, Tudor, Omega, and many others. The gentlemen here are friendly and great to work with. We even picked up a great vintage piece for ourselves during our visit
The Burlington Arcade in London is not only one of the most historic and luxurious shopping arcades but also a must-visit destination for vintage watch enthusiasts. Located in the prestigious Mayfair area near Piccadilly, this iconic arcade has been a hallmark of elegance and sophistication since it opened in 1819. As one of the world’s oldest purpose-built shopping arcades, its timeless Georgian architecture provides a fitting backdrop for the exquisite craftsmanship and heritage that vintage watches embody.
In recent years, the Burlington Arcade has evolved into one of London’s premier hubs for vintage timepieces. It is home to a selection of highly regarded dealers, each specializing in sourcing and offering some of the most sought-after and rare watches in the world. Whether you’re an avid collector, a first-time buyer, or someone seeking a special piece with historical significance, the arcade offers a curated selection to suit every taste and budget.

Somlo stands out as one of the marquee watch retailers in the Burlington Arcade—a place that feels like it was built for horological treasure hunts. I first visited Somlo in 2017, shortly after I kicked off C+T. On one of my early trips to London, I was a fledgling dealer, wide-eyed and hungry for the next discovery. Walking into Somlo felt like stepping into a cathedral of time, a space where history ticks away quietly in glass cases.
The showroom is as refined as the timepieces it houses—each display meticulously curated, each watch holding its own story. Somlo offers a little bit of everything, from early timekeeping devices to vintage Cartier pieces practically dripping with old-world elegance. But what really steals the show here—and what Somlo is perhaps best known for—is its unrivaled collection of vintage Omega watches. Their windows, a masterclass in temptation, featuring everything from rare Omega chronographs to the most exquisite Cartier creations you’ll ever see. Vintage Omega might be the shop’s cornerstone, but Somlo doesn’t stop there. The variety is staggering, appealing to anyone who appreciates the art and history of watchmaking. Whether hunting for a grail or just soaking up the atmosphere, Somlo is a stop that leaves an impression—and maybe, just maybe, a new watch on your wrist.
Portobello Market isn’t just one of London’s most famous street markets—it’s a living, breathing carnival of culture and commerce, stretching through the colorful heart of Notting Hill. This isn’t a place you visit; it’s a place you dive into. Along Portobello Road, the eclectic mix of antiques, vintage treasures, fashion, food, and yes, vintage watches, makes for an experience that’s as unpredictable as it is unforgettable.
For the watch hunter, this is where the thrill of the chase truly comes alive. Stalls brim with lesser-known but reliable vintage brands, perfect for finding entry-level pieces with real soul. But the real magic lies in the hunt itself. With patience and a sharp eye, you just might uncover treasures—a vintage Rolex, an Omega with stories to tell, or even a Jaeger-LeCoultre that’s flown under the radar.
This isn’t just shopping; it’s a game of wit and negotiation. Each stall is a puzzle, each seller a potential source of untapped horological gold. Some will wax lyrical about a piece’s history, while others might let slip where you can find the next great score. Conversations flow as easily as the crowds, making it as much about connection as commerce.
Give yourself time—Portobello Market demands it. We spent the better part of half a day weaving through its chaos, and it still felt like scratching the surface. Arrive early, ready to dig in, and don’t rush. One standout stop was Lucky Time London, a shop devoted entirely to vintage watches. Organized and inviting, it’s the perfect basecamp for your hunt. Here, you’ll find not only a stellar selection but also a community—fellow enthusiasts and dealers who might tip you off to hidden gems nearby. And in true market fashion, you never know who might pull something extraordinary out of a pocket or bag.
Portobello Market is raw, unpredictable, and unpolished—exactly as a proper vintage hunt should be. It’s not just about finding a watch; it’s about finding a story. And in the chaos of it all, you might just find a piece of yourself.

Tucked away on a charming side street just off the iconic New Bond Street, you’ll find the stunning showroom of Watch Collectors UK. This place isn’t just a showroom—it’s a cathedral for the horologically obsessed. I’ve walked into countless vintage watch spaces, but this one ranks among the most impressive I’ve ever experienced firsthand.
The displays? They’re almost futuristic, blending sleek, space-age functionality with a refined, elegant aesthetic that feels entirely London. It’s a fitting stage for the treasures they showcase: off-catalog gem-set Rolexes, prestigious Cartier pieces, and rare, unique Audemars Piguet watches—all part of an extensive collection that could make even seasoned collectors weak in the knees.
What sets Watch Collectors UK apart isn’t just the watches—it’s the people. A family-run operation, the team exudes passion, expertise, and warmth. They know these timepieces inside and out, but they don’t just share knowledge—they share their enthusiasm, making the experience personal and, dare I say, unforgettable.
Our time with the Watch Collectors team was as endearing as it was inspiring. It felt less like a transaction and more like a shared celebration of craftsmanship and history. There’s no doubt in my mind: this is a place I’ll return to on my next visit to London.

We recently met Fred, the proprietor of Willions Ltd, at one of the Monaco Legends auctions. It quickly became apparent that we share similar tastes and passions for watches. After the last MLG auction, we mentioned our plans to head to London to finalize the London Vintage Watch Buyers Guide, and Fred kindly invited us to visit his shop and view some of his collection.
Fred has a keen eye for detail and prefers watches with that “something extra.” His collection includes rare and vintage pieces focusing on unusual diamond set and complicated pieces by the likes of AP, Cartier, Gerald Genta and so on, Each piece is a reflection of Fred’s appreciation for craftsmanship, history and unique character. Above all, Fred and the curated collection at Willion Ltd embody a passion and enthusiasm that we deeply relate to as collectors ourselves.
Willion Ltd is located at Bourbon Hanby Arcade, 151 Sydney Street, London, SW3 6NT. Willion’s operates by appointment only, and all watches are listed on their Instagram page. To set up an appointment or obtain more information about a specific watch, you can visit their Instagram page.

Piccadilly Vaults was hands down one of the best stops we made on this trip. We stumbled upon it a few days before and caught only a glimpse through the window, but even that teaser had enough horological treasure to pull us back. And damn, am I glad we did. We acquired four watches during our visit, but quite a few watches fit the bill for what we fancy in particular. You’ll find this place just a block from the Burlington Arcade, tucked in the Piccadilly Arcade. The store itself is small, but don’t let that fool you. Inside, it’s an Aladdin’s cave of watches and antiques. You’ve got everything from the rarified Rolex Comex Sea-Dweller to a no-nonsense, time-only Girard Perregaux dress watch. But that’s just the start. The real magic is in the oddities—bizarre, fascinating antiques, each with a story that’ll suck you right in. And the staff? They’re not just knowledgeable; they’re damn friendly. They’ll happily pour you a drink while you wander the store, absorbing the bizarre charm of it all. And if you’re fortunate, you might walk out not just with a vintage watch but a suit of armor or a killer piece of antique jewelry. It’s that kind of place.
When we embed ourselves into a city, more often than not, we are on a mission to find the best shops; in some cases, we have to reach out to set an appointment to view the shop, which is standard practice in our world but in many cases, we try not to let any of the dealer networks within that city know that we are in the country as we want to experience the shop and the goods without any bias. There are many cases in which we stumble across horological gems. Still, the inverse side of that is that sometimes we walk into shops that don’t make the metaphorical cut for these guides based on the quality of watches they offer or the attitude of that shop. If we have a terrible experience with the shop or if the customer service experience isn’t one we relate to we wouldn’t want to send our readers awry.
